Stress Less & Enjoy More!

In this four week series you will be introduced to a variety of simple meditation techniques, explore the basics of scientific research around meditation and its benefits, and have an opportunity to ask your questions about meditation. Enjoy a community while learning to meditate, and leave this class series with a meditation practice you can use on your own.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

The purpose of the Be Luminous Teacher Training program is to empower you to teach and inspire others to live vibrant, joyful lives.  It is our firm belief that happy, healthy people are the only people who can help build a happy, healthy world.  This is the work of being a teacher.  It begins with the individual and spreads as you live yoga - live union - in your life.

How does the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training program prepare you to take on your role as a teacher?  Our Teacher Training program provides a well-rounded curriculum in the 8 Limbs of Yoga, with a focus on teaching for positive personal and global transformation through asana and meditation.  You will gain an understanding of how to sequence and structure yoga classes and training in anatomy and modifications for niche groups.  The program is anchored in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa philosophy and sequencing, but will provide a strong foundation in yoga, enabling you to apply this training toward various styles of yoga.  The program also includes a significant emphasis on personal awareness and an ability to teach from your heart with a strong, clear voice.

 

Upon successful completion of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you are eligible to apply for your 200 RYT certification with the Yoga Alliance.  This program is also certified through the Washington State Workforce Training board, a consumer protection agency govering all vocational schools in the State of Washington.

October 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of October 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 23rd.  For those wanting a payment plan option, be sure to get your application in by this deadline. 

December 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of December 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by December 21st.

Late Applications:  Space permitting, applications will be accepted until January 8, 2015.

Open House & FREE CLASS!:  With a Thursday evening in June & September to include a  5:30-6:30 pm class with Tina Templeman and 6:45-7:45 Information Session with Faculty and Alumni.  Check back for specific dates.

Mandatory Program Dates: January 15-18, February 5-8, March 5-8, April 2-5, April 30- May 3. 

Weekend Schedule: All weekends are Thursday nights from 4-9 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 8:15 am – 6:30pm.  

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this training prepare me to teach that other trainings may not offer?   We are committed to empowering you to teach NOW, not with 3 more years of practice under your belt.  In order to achieve this, you will have many teaching and feedback opportunists each weekend.  Of particular interest, the Be Luminous Yoga program offers you three opportunities to teach on video, receiving feedback from two coaches each time.  By the last time, you will teach a full 1-hour class.  Second, you will teach a small section of a live class of 40-60 people on the weekend of graduation.  Most programs offer small bits of feedback on individual poses or 5-10 minutes of teaching.  We believe you need to teach real people in real settings for longer amounts of time in order to be ready to teach.  We offer you a unique and fabulous opportunity to grow quickly with our system.

  • And experiential and integrative approach to anatomy and physiology so that you instantaneously feel and understand the impact of your movement and how it applies to teaching. 
  • With Tina Templeman as a lead instructor of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you get the benefit of an integrated approach to anatomy and physiology that means you absorb the information naturally through practice and application.   
  • The Staff: 
    • Michel brings her skills as a powerful educator and facilitator, and a deep passion for designing programs and curriculum that make a real difference in people’s lives.  She has been facilitating transformation work since she was 18 years old, starting with Essential Peacemaking & Peace Trees. 
    • Scott brings over 20 years of meditation and yoga practice to the training, including having complete multiple 10-30 day silent meditation retreats.
    • Tina brings her powerful teaching of yoga, coupled by her study of the human body as a massage therapist, creator of anatomy and physiology components for multiple teacher trainings in the Pacific Northwest.  She is also a Reiki master and had facilitated non-yoga transformational work for since 2002. 
  • Adjunct Faculty: Experience a minimum of three powerful guest teachers from other styles of yoga.

How many people will be in our teacher training?  We limit the number of participants to 32 people, with a staff to student ratio of 1:8.  We require 16 people at a minimum to run the program.  While many applicants will be accepted, not all will be.  You must have practiced yoga for at least three months before applying to this training.   

What is the pre-requisite work?  Anyone is eligible to apply for teacher training.  Once you are accepted, you will be given your pre-requisite work, which mainly consists of reading, anatomy study and reviewing a few classes at various studios before we begin.  This is about 30 hours worth of work that you complete on your own in any way that works for you.  We recommend making the initial Application Deadline to have the most time to complete your work.

When will I hear if I am accepted?  Applications for 2015 will be reviewed and accepted within one week of each of the posted application deadlines.  At this time, you will be sent the enrollment agreement.  Upon recepeit of your enrollment agreement, you will receive an acceptance letter, a welcome packet with your pre-requisite work to begin, and we will charge you based on your application preferences.

What if I need to miss a session?   If you already know you will need to miss more than a day of training, we recommend that you wait for the next training.  It is a requirmeent of the Yoga Alliance that you receive a minimum number of contact hours for the training to apply for Yoga Alliance Certification.  It is also quite challenging to parse out the time you miss into make-up time.   Any hours missed must be made up at an extra expense of $50 per hour (this is significantly less many other teacher training programs).  We will always work with people for family emergencies and other issues that may arise.  

Core Teacher Training Faculty

Michel Eubank Spruance, E-RYT 500, MEd. and a Baptiste Faculty Member, has been teaching yoga since 2004 with an emphasis on Baptiste Power Vinyasa.  She assists Baron Baptiste frequently at teacher trainings, finding great inspiration in working with new teachers.  Michel marries her passion for impactful curriculum design with over 19 years as a classroom educator and facilitator of personal transformation programs to insure your success as a teacher. Her mission is to inspire and empower everyone she works with.

Scott Francis brings his passion for yoga and meditation to this training, encouraging students to dive into deep personal transformation and the experiential understanding of universal truths. He brings his wisdom as a facilitator and draws on over 20 years of studies with master yoga teachers and internationally known meditation teachers to guide students to their potential.

Tina Templeman, E-RYT 200, is a strong and graceful yoga teacher, and the owner of Body Harmony: Massage and Yoga.  Tina serves as a Lead Instructor for the program as a whole, as well as separheading the anatomy and physiology portion of the training with an emphasis on its application to teaching yoga.  While Tina leads is saught afgter to lead the anatomy section of many other 200-Hour Trainings, you can only get the full imact of Tina as a leader of your teacher training experience at Be Luminous Yoga. 

Adjunct Teacher Training Faculty

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

Be Luminous Yoga is partnering with the global Next Generation Yoga program to bring a yoga practice for children ages 6-10. Kindling the maturing independence of 6-10 year olds, these classes encourage a deeper sense of body awareness, self-exploration and interpersonal skills. Alive with flowing sequences, balancing poses, breathing exercises, and creative relaxation techniques, children are sure to relish in their selves. As well, partner poses and cooperative yoga games inspire positive peer interactions that they carry into their everyday lives. Classes will be lead by Jen Olson, a Next Generation Yoga graduate with over 3 years of experience working with children.

The purpose of the Be Luminous Teacher Training program is to empower you to teach and inspire others to live vibrant, joyful lives.  It is our firm belief that happy, healthy people are the only people who can help build a happy, healthy world.  This is the work of being a teacher.  It begins with the individual and spreads as you live yoga - live union - in your life.

How does the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training program prepare you to take on your role as a teacher?  Our Teacher Training program provides a well-rounded curriculum in the 8 Limbs of Yoga, with a focus on teaching for positive personal and global transformation through asana and meditation.  You will gain an understanding of how to sequence and structure yoga classes and training in anatomy and modifications for niche groups.  The program is anchored in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa philosophy and sequencing, but will provide a strong foundation in yoga, enabling you to apply this training toward various styles of yoga.  The program also includes a significant emphasis on personal awareness and an ability to teach from your heart with a strong, clear voice.

 

Upon successful completion of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you are eligible to apply for your 200 RYT certification with the Yoga Alliance.  This program is also certified through the Washington State Workforce Training board, a consumer protection agency govering all vocational schools in the State of Washington.

Registration Deadlines (Download an Application here):

October 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of October 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 23rd.  For those wanting a payment plan option, be sure to get your application in by this deadline. 

December 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of December 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by December 21st.

Late Applications:  Space permitting, applications will be accepted until January 8, 2015.

Open House & FREE CLASS!:  With a Thursday evening in June & September to include a  5:30-6:30 pm class with Tina Templeman and 6:45-7:45 Information Session with Faculty and Alumni.  Check back for specific dates.

Mandatory Program Dates: January 15-18, February 5-8, March 5-8, April 2-5, April 30- May 3. 

Weekend Schedule: All weekends are Thursday nights from 4-9 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 8:15 am – 6:30pm.

How does this training prepare me to teach that other trainings may not offer?   We are committed to empowering you to teach NOW, not with 3 more years of practice under your belt.  In order to achieve this, you will have many teaching and feedback opportunists each weekend.  Of particular interest, the Be Luminous Yoga program offers you three opportunities to teach on video, receiving feedback from two coaches each time.  By the last time, you will teach a full 1-hour class.  Second, you will teach a small section of a live class of 40-60 people on the weekend of graduation.  Most programs offer small bits of feedback on individual poses or 5-10 minutes of teaching.  We believe you need to teach real people in real settings for longer amounts of time in order to be ready to teach.  We offer you a unique and fabulous opportunity to grow quickly with our system.

  • A study of the traditional teachings of yoga that makes them applicable in your real, daily life as person, a spouse, a parent, a business owner, a young person in transition, etc…. 
  • And experiential and integrative approach to anatomy and physiology so that you instantaneously feel and understand the impact of your movement and how it applies to teaching. 
  • With Tina Templeman as a lead instructor of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you get the benefit of an integrated approach to anatomy and physiology that means you absorb the information naturally through practice and application.   
  • The Staff: 
    • Michel brings her skills as a powerful educator and facilitator, and a deep passion for designing programs and curriculum that make a real difference in people’s lives.  She has been facilitating transformation work since she was 18 years old, starting with Essential Peacemaking & Peace Trees. 
    • Scott brings over 20 years of meditation and yoga practice to the training, including having complete multiple 10-30 day silent meditation retreats.
    • Tina brings her powerful teaching of yoga, coupled by her study of the human body as a massage therapist, creator of anatomy and physiology components for multiple teacher trainings in the Pacific Northwest.  She is also a Reiki master and had facilitated non-yoga transformational work for since 2002. 
  • Adjunct Faculty: Experience a minimum of three powerful guest teachers from other styles of yoga.

How many people will be in our teacher training?  We limit the number of participants to 32 people, with a staff to student ratio of 1:8.  We require 16 people at a minimum to run the program.  While many applicants will be accepted, not all will be.  You must have practiced yoga for at least three months before applying to this training.   

What is the pre-requisite work?  Anyone is eligible to apply for teacher training.  Once you are accepted, you will be given your pre-requisite work, which mainly consists of reading, anatomy study and reviewing a few classes at various studios before we begin.  This is about 30 hours worth of work that you complete on your own in any way that works for you.  We recommend making the initial Application Deadline to have the most time to complete your work.

When will I hear if I am accepted?  Applications for 2015 will be reviewed and accepted within one week of each of the posted application deadlines.  At this time, you will be sent the enrollment agreement.  Upon recepeit of your enrollment agreement, you will receive an acceptance letter, a welcome packet with your pre-requisite work to begin, and we will charge you based on your application preferences.

What if I need to miss a session?   If you already know you will need to miss more than a day of training, we recommend that you wait for the next training.  It is a requirmeent of the Yoga Alliance that you receive a minimum number of contact hours for the training to apply for Yoga Alliance Certification.  It is also quite challenging to parse out the time you miss into make-up time.   Any hours missed must be made up at an extra expense of $50 per hour (this is significantly less many other teacher training programs).  We will always work with people for family emergencies and other issues that may arise.  

Core Teacher Training Faculty

Michel Eubank Spruance, E-RYT 500, MEd. and a Baptiste Faculty Member, has been teaching yoga since 2004 with an emphasis on Baptiste Power Vinyasa.  She assists Baron Baptiste frequently at teacher trainings, finding great inspiration in working with new teachers.  Michel marries her passion for impactful curriculum design with over 19 years as a classroom educator and facilitator of personal transformation programs to insure your success as a teacher. Her mission is to inspire and empower everyone she works with.

Scott Francis brings his passion for yoga and meditation to this training, encouraging students to dive into deep personal transformation and the experiential understanding of universal truths. He brings his wisdom as a facilitator and draws on over 20 years of studies with master yoga teachers and internationally known meditation teachers to guide students to their potential.

Tina Templeman, E-RYT 200, is a strong and graceful yoga teacher, and the owner of Body Harmony: Massage and Yoga.  Tina serves as a Lead Instructor for the program as a whole, as well as separheading the anatomy and physiology portion of the training with an emphasis on its application to teaching yoga.  While Tina leads is saught afgter to lead the anatomy section of many other 200-Hour Trainings, you can only get the full imact of Tina as a leader of your teacher training experience at Be Luminous Yoga. 

Adjunct Teacher Training Faculty

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

The purpose of the Be Luminous Teacher Training program is to empower you to teach and inspire others to live vibrant, joyful lives.  It is our firm belief that happy, healthy people are the only people who can help build a happy, healthy world.  This is the work of being a teacher.  It begins with the individual and spreads as you live yoga - live union - in your life.

How does the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training program prepare you to take on your role as a teacher?  Our Teacher Training program provides a well-rounded curriculum in the 8 Limbs of Yoga, with a focus on teaching for positive personal and global transformation through asana and meditation.  You will gain an understanding of how to sequence and structure yoga classes and training in anatomy and modifications for niche groups.  The program is anchored in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa philosophy and sequencing, but will provide a strong foundation in yoga, enabling you to apply this training toward various styles of yoga.  The program also includes a significant emphasis on personal awareness and an ability to teach from your heart with a strong, clear voice.

 

Upon successful completion of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you are eligible to apply for your 200 RYT certification with the Yoga Alliance.  This program is also certified through the Washington State Workforce Training board, a consumer protection agency govering all vocational schools in the State of Washington.

Registration Deadlines (Download an Application here):

October 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of October 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 23rd.  For those wanting a payment plan option, be sure to get your application in by this deadline. 

December 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of December 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by December 21st.

Late Applications:  Space permitting, applications will be accepted until January 8, 2015.

Open House & FREE CLASS!:  With a Thursday evening in June & September to include a  5:30-6:30 pm class with Tina Templeman and 6:45-7:45 Information Session with Faculty and Alumni.  Check back for specific dates.

Mandatory Program Dates: January 15-18, February 5-8, March 5-8, April 2-5, April 30- May 3. 

Weekend Schedule: All weekends are Thursday nights from 4-9 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 8:15 am – 6:30pm.  

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this training prepare me to teach that other trainings may not offer?   We are committed to empowering you to teach NOW, not with 3 more years of practice under your belt.  In order to achieve this, you will have many teaching and feedback opportunists each weekend.  Of particular interest, the Be Luminous Yoga program offers you three opportunities to teach on video, receiving feedback from two coaches each time.  By the last time, you will teach a full 1-hour class.  Second, you will teach a small section of a live class of 40-60 people on the weekend of graduation.  Most programs offer small bits of feedback on individual poses or 5-10 minutes of teaching.  We believe you need to teach real people in real settings for longer amounts of time in order to be ready to teach.  We offer you a unique and fabulous opportunity to grow quickly with our system.

  • With Tina Templeman as a lead instructor of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you get the benefit of an integrated approach to anatomy and physiology that means you absorb the information naturally through practice and application.   
  • The Staff: 
    • Michel brings her skills as a powerful educator and facilitator, and a deep passion for designing programs and curriculum that make a real difference in people’s lives.  She has been facilitating transformation work since she was 18 years old, starting with Essential Peacemaking & Peace Trees. 
    • Scott brings over 20 years of meditation and yoga practice to the training, including having complete multiple 10-30 day silent meditation retreats.
    • Tina brings her powerful teaching of yoga, coupled by her study of the human body as a massage therapist, creator of anatomy and physiology components for multiple teacher trainings in the Pacific Northwest.  She is also a Reiki master and had facilitated non-yoga transformational work for since 2002. 
  • Adjunct Faculty: Experience a minimum of three powerful guest teachers from other styles of yoga.

How many people will be in our teacher training?  We limit the number of participants to 32 people, with a staff to student ratio of 1:8.  We require 16 people at a minimum to run the program.  While many applicants will be accepted, not all will be.  You must have practiced yoga for at least three months before applying to this training.   

What is the pre-requisite work?  Anyone is eligible to apply for teacher training.  Once you are accepted, you will be given your pre-requisite work, which mainly consists of reading, anatomy study and reviewing a few classes at various studios before we begin.  This is about 30 hours worth of work that you complete on your own in any way that works for you.  We recommend making the initial Application Deadline to have the most time to complete your work.

When will I hear if I am accepted?  Applications for 2015 will be reviewed and accepted within one week of each of the posted application deadlines.  At this time, you will be sent the enrollment agreement.  Upon recepeit of your enrollment agreement, you will receive an acceptance letter, a welcome packet with your pre-requisite work to begin, and we will charge you based on your application preferences.

What if I need to miss a session?   If you already know you will need to miss more than a day of training, we recommend that you wait for the next training.  It is a requirmeent of the Yoga Alliance that you receive a minimum number of contact hours for the training to apply for Yoga Alliance Certification.  It is also quite challenging to parse out the time you miss into make-up time.   Any hours missed must be made up at an extra expense of $50 per hour (this is significantly less many other teacher training programs).  We will always work with people for family emergencies and other issues that may arise.  

Core Teacher Training Faculty

Michel Eubank Spruance, E-RYT 500, MEd. and a Baptiste Faculty Member, has been teaching yoga since 2004 with an emphasis on Baptiste Power Vinyasa.  She assists Baron Baptiste frequently at teacher trainings, finding great inspiration in working with new teachers.  Michel marries her passion for impactful curriculum design with over 19 years as a classroom educator and facilitator of personal transformation programs to insure your success as a teacher. Her mission is to inspire and empower everyone she works with.

Scott Francis brings his passion for yoga and meditation to this training, encouraging students to dive into deep personal transformation and the experiential understanding of universal truths. He brings his wisdom as a facilitator and draws on over 20 years of studies with master yoga teachers and internationally known meditation teachers to guide students to their potential.

Tina Templeman, E-RYT 200, is a strong and graceful yoga teacher, and the owner of Body Harmony: Massage and Yoga.  Tina serves as a Lead Instructor for the program as a whole, as well as separheading the anatomy and physiology portion of the training with an emphasis on its application to teaching yoga.  While Tina leads is saught afgter to lead the anatomy section of many other 200-Hour Trainings, you can only get the full imact of Tina as a leader of your teacher training experience at Be Luminous Yoga. 

Adjunct Teacher Training Faculty

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Be Luminous Yoga is partnering with the global Next Generation Yoga program to bring a yoga practice for children ages 6-10. Kindling the maturing independence of 6-10 year olds, these classes encourage a deeper sense of body awareness, self-exploration and interpersonal skills. Alive with flowing sequences, balancing poses, breathing exercises, and creative relaxation techniques, children are sure to relish in their selves. As well, partner poses and cooperative yoga games inspire positive peer interactions that they carry into their everyday lives. Classes will be lead by Jen Olson, a Next Generation Yoga graduate with over 3 years of experience working with children.

WORKSHOP 1: HIPS, KNOW THYSELF We will explore how to tap into metaphor and symbolism in your body and in your life, starting with the hip, which is stability, safety, and security. Use your stability to support your ability and vision in life!

WORKSHOP 2: COME FLY THE FRIENDLY SKIES Yoga poses are a metaphor for life. When you start to see how you use or don’t use different joints that correspond with your stability, potential, capacity, and vision you can work in your body to change your psychology. We can only see 1/3 of ourselves, so other people and poses are keys to help us see fully. We’ll explore where we get caught in our poses, because where we get caught in poses reveals where we get got in our lives. Ultimately, we all want to soar!

Overhaul- to take apart in order to examine and repair if necessary. Through the lens of Katonah Yoga, a framework of yoga rooted in NYC,we will examine some of the most practiced postures with a new spin on things.Life is about patterns and yoga helps to reveal our patterns, our best game and the game we never step into. This is a practice to come and learn where you don’t step in, so that you can in fact, step in and gain access to blind spots. You will learn principles of the Katonah practice that you can implement in any style of yoga with a greater understanding of how your joints, organs, and glands are really the primary focus in all yoga asanas. In the womb, we were folded at the joints, come and learn the beautiful and playful ways to fold and unfold, like origami!

About the Instructor: Jessica began her teaching 5 years ago as a Baptiste/Vinyasa trained teacher. Since then she has learned from Troy Lucero in Seattle and with Abbie Galvin at Katonah Yoga in NYC. She draws upon her massage therapy training to inform her interactions in the class room. Through injury and pain she has developed a practice that is both sustainable, challenging, and freeing, for life.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. The effects of your yoga practice penetrate beyond your physical body. When you practice yoga, you’re also transforming your energy, which has a profound effect on how you feel mentally and emotionally. There are seven vital energy centers in your body, called chakras. The chakras govern your:

Sense of groundedness

Creativity

Sense of purpose and living a meaningful life (your dharma)

Openness to love, capacity for joy, compassion and acceptance of others

Ability to speak your truth

Depth of intuition and awareness

Spiritual connection

In this asana-based workshop you’ll learn which of your chakras are balanced and how to bring those that are not back into a balanced state. You’ll understand which asanas correspond with each of these energy centers, so that you can maintain a sense of balance and ease physically, mentally and emotionally long after the workshop. You’ll explore how simple pranayama practices and short, focused meditations help you to unlock these energetic centers if you’re feeling stagnant or disconnected from parts of yourself.

 

About the Instructor:

Jodi Boone has taught yoga since 2001, completing her Baptiste trainings in 2003. Most recently, she spent six years in India teaching and studying yoga and Ayurveda. Jodi is a certified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant, studying in Goa, India at the Ayurvedic Natural Health Center. She continues her studies here in Seattle at the Kerala Academy, as well as in Massachusets at Kripalu.

This program is an elective within the Be Luminous Yoga 300 Hour Teacher Training (500 HR Certification).

You Will Learn...

  • Yoga Sequencing on water: Intelligent yoga class sequences developed specifically for Stand Up Paddle Yoga with poses that are uniquely adapted to use the paddle, board and water to enhance and elevate the experience of Yoga On Liquid.
  • Stand Up Paddling Skills: Turns, strokes and the ability to slow down, stop, and navigate confidently and correctly.
  • Stand Up Paddle Gear: How SUP boards work, what they are made of and how to choose and use the correct boards for yoga. Also, what gear is needed and legally required, what gear an instructor should always carry and how to use it.
  • How to create a Yoga Studio On Liquid: You will learn to asses your environment whether it be a lake, ocean, marina, river or pool. What to look for, how to negotiate with public and private property, permits, parking and water access, to natural conditions and what kind of gear to use to anchor students and instructors to create a successful Yoga on Liquid environment.
  • Water Safety and Rescue: How to be prepared and confident to keep all students safe and what to do in case of various situations that call for your immediate and appropriate action. Including how best to contact for help, how to rescue a conscious and unconscious victim, what to do in unexpected rough water, cold water, seasickness, heat stroke, etc.
  • How to create a successful Yoga on Liquid business: Including pricing classes, marketing and partnering with yoga studios and board rental shops, creating an online presence including booking classes and registration, taking payments onsite, liability insurance and waivers, creating a viral marketing movement using social media and more.

  • Rental of SUP board, paddle, and life vest is included.

Melissa Longfellow has been a yogi and a seeker ever since she can remember… In a seemingly unlikely path for a half-Guatemalan/half-French Canadian WASP raised Catholic in suburban Massachusetts, at age 8 Melissa was given the name “Padmavati” (lotus flower) by the late Siddha Yoga guru Swami Muktananda. After several years of being unconscious of, and unkind to her body in her 20's, she sought out yoga for healing and serendipitously arrived into a daily yoga practice with Baron Baptiste (who continues to be her main teacher, 15 years later). Her body healed, her life transformed and her heart opened. After moving from Boston to San Diego to Bellingham WA, Melissa taught at Shakti Vinyasa Yoga in Seattle before opening 3 OMS YOGA in 2009. Melissa is deeply inspired by yoga and the life practice of it, meditation, being the presence of possibility and greatness for others. She is also dedicated to surf, sun, snowboarding, playing with her two young boys, painting murals and creating connection and inspiration in everything she does. When not in rainy, beautiful Bellingham, you will likely find her pursuing surf or teaching Standup Paddleboard Yoga in some sunny, tropical location. Be Luminous Yoga is partnering with the global Next Generation Yoga program to bring a yoga practice for children ages 6-10. Kindling the maturing independence of 6-10 year olds, these classes encourage a deeper sense of body awareness, self-exploration and interpersonal skills. Alive with flowing sequences, balancing poses, breathing exercises, and creative relaxation techniques, children are sure to relish in their selves. As well, partner poses and cooperative yoga games inspire positive peer interactions that they carry into their everyday lives. Classes will be lead by Jen Olson, a Next Generation Yoga graduate with over 3 years of experience working with children.

Why this training?

While many of us start yoga for its awesome physical benefits, at some point we want more than just the basics of classes.  We want to understand the anatomy behind what we are doing.  We want to to master handstand. We want to know what poses are good for energizing or managing stress and anxiety. At some point, we also know that yoga is changing us – making us kinder, happier, less reactionary.  So, what’s all that about?  What’s going on on my yoga mat that’s making me a better person elsewhere?  We’ll explore all of this and more in this powerful, hands-on 2 month immersion. Plan to participate fully. The program offers the opportunity not only expand your yoga practice, but engage in personal exploration to leave you with real, practical tools to enliven your whole life.

Who is this program for? 

The program is perfect for those who love yoga and want to learn more about the full package of yoga, from asana, to a taste of Sanskrit, to a touch of Ayurveda and a study of the 8 limbs. The course is built for yoga practitioners interested a immersion  outside of a teacher training environment, and current teachers seeking ongoing training.

What we will cover?

Asana:

  • Refine your daily asana practice & explore advanced asanas
  • Learn basic anatomy for yoga postures
  • Enjoy long, inspiring and deepening yoga practices of discovery
  • Design a home sequence

Mediation:

  • Explore three different meditation techniques
  • Learn your personalized Primordial Sound Mantra (Chopra Center)

Pranayama:

  • Learn various techniques and their applications
  • Integrate pranayama into a daily practice

Yoga Philosophy +:

  • Dive into the traditional teachings of yoga and apply them in your life

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).
