Classes

At Be Luminous Yoga, we specialize in Power Vinyasa Yoga, offering a host of complementary yoga styles to round out your experience.

What is Power Vinyasa Yoga? Our Power Vinyasa classes are taught in the Baptiste style. Baptiste Power Vinyasa is a strong yoga practice that transforms your body and mind from the inside out. We pair breath, movement and heat to build strength, cleanse the body, and stretch out muscles. In this way, it is an all-around wellness regime for both body and mind. The practice is powerful because it can be modified for a range of bodies.

To learn more about Baptiste Power Vinyasa read an interview with its creator, Baron Baptiste.

INTRO TO YOGA SERIES

This series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step by step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. This class is a powerful mind and body workout. We recommend this class for individuals who are new to yoga and for those new to the studio without prior Baptiste exposure. This series can be repeated many times to build strength and stamina.

For September only, the Monday/Wednesday Intro to Yoga Series will be 6 classes at a reduced rate of $70. The series will start on Wednesday, September 8 and continue every Monday and Wednesday through September 29th (however, there is NO class on Monday, September 27th).

Tuesday & Thursday from 12-1 pm.
Eight 1 hour classes. Next series begins October 5.

POWER VINYASA LV 1

PV Level 1 stays true to the Baptiste sequence learned in the introductory series. From time to time, we break down specific postures and add simple variations into the sequence, moving at a moderate pace.

POWER VINYASA LV 2

This strong flow class incorporates more advanced variations into the Baptiste sequence. This class will move faster, assume a basic level of yoga knowledge, and rely on your ability to modify poses and take care of yourself. Once you have been through an introductory series, you should feel comfortable attending this class as long as you are willing to take care of yourself and work at your appropriate level.

POWER VINYASA LV 2 + MEDITATION

This two-hour class moves at a level 2 pace, and relies on your ability to modify poses and take care of yourself. The class also integrates meditation, either in small sections within the practice, or concluding with a 1/2 hour seated meditation.

POWER VINYASA LV 1-2

Level 1-2 classes allow you to work at your own level. Variations and modifications will be incorporated for each class as needed.

HOUR OF POWER LV 1-2

Hour of Power is an hour-long class building on variations of the Baptiste flow. Come prepared to work at your level that day, but know you will get a strong practice. Note: On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, the Hour of Power class segues into an optional 1/2 hour led meditation. Please feel free to stay for the meditation or sneak out quietly if you choose not to stay. The teacher will guide this process and lead the seated meditation.

BEGINNERS YOGA

This class offers those new to yoga a gentle introduction to flow yoga, which will help you build strength, stamina, and flexibility. This class runs at a very moderate pace and breaks down yoga poses so you can begin to explore building the benefits of yoga for you. It is a perfect compliment to the full Intro to Yoga Series we offer on Monday/Wednesday nights, and Tuesday/Thursday noons, but it can be taken on its own if those classes do not fit in your schedule.

DYNAMIC FLOW LV 3

This dynamic class moves deeply and creatively through a fluid range of movements that are often outside the Baptiste sequence. We integrate inversions, pranayama (breathing) meditation, and a variety of advanced poses. A strong foundation in yoga and knowledge of your own practice is requested.

DYNAMIC FLOW LV 2-3

This class moves deeply and creatively through a fluid range of movements often outside the Baptiste sequence. We integrate inversions, pranayama (breathing) meditation and a variety of advanced poses. A strong foundation in yoga and knowledge of your own practice is requested.

GENTLE YOGA

This gentle class is appropriate for all levels and ages of practitioners. We will work slowly, focusing on proper alignment and modifications for individual bodies. The class is specifically meant for those who would like a more restorative class, are working with health concerns or injuries, or are new to yoga but not ready for the intensity of Power Vinyasa.

FINE TUNING

Finally, a class for all levels to fine-tune your vinyasa practice. Pulling from the traditions of Iyengar and Anusara, you will learn about the biomechanics of your practice, the physiological benefits of poses and applied anatomy, while working on families of poses that teach inversions, arm-balances, core, and hip and shoulder opening. We will rotate teachers periodically, allowing instructors to share their diverse expertise, from kinesiology to philosophy. Liz Doyle will teach Fine Tuning for the month of September. Liz will share her new insights from her recent, extensive training in London, focusing on deepening your poses through breathing.

ATHLETE STRETCH

This one-hour class provides a place for our athlete community to stretch deeply and consciously, relieving tension, lengthening muscles and repairing the damage of intense use. You don't have to be a mega athlete to enjoy the class, but we will specifically speak to the needs of runners, bikers, triathletes and so forth. The class is outside our typical vinyasa classes, and will focus on held postures and lengthening. It is the perfect way to cap off your long workout or build in a little recovery, slipping into Sunday with a sigh.

FAMILY YOGA

Yes, that's right - yoga for the whole family. This class builds on parent & child interaction, guiding both parties through playful movement and growth. For children, yoga stimulates all aspects of a their development, cultivates body awareness, increases strength/flexibility/coordination, and teaches children self calming tools. Family yoga is a great way to encourage development using songs, stories, and physical movements.

The class can be registered for as one adult and one child, or two adults to one child. We recommend this class for families with children between the ages of 4-9, depending on your child.

PRENATAL YOGA

For expectant mothers, this class provides a refuge where women can nourish their bodies through the profound transitions of pregnancy and beyond. The class is restorative, helping you maintain a range of motion, open tight areas, and relax into your body, all within a community of other women moving through similar experiences.

Prenatal Yoga is sold in 4-class packages to be used in 6 weeks. You can begin at any time during the month.

COMMUNITY CLASS (HOUR OF POWER LV 1-2)

The community class is a unique opportunity for you to have access to yoga on a donation basis, while providing new teachers the space to gain experience. Your donation goes directly to our current community alliance non-profit. This is a Power Yoga 1 Class.

MINDFUL MONKEY'S (Kids Yoga)

Come play with us! We integrate yoga through play, art, and stories. We will have a lot of fun, while fostering creativity, honing flexibility and stability, and learning calming techniques for life-long practice. This class is held opposite the 9:30 class on Fridays for 5-9 year olds.

There will also be a Mindful Monkey's summer camp that integrates yoga through play, art, and stories. We will practice yoga daily, spend time in nature, read stories, and enjoy art projects. For children 8-11 years old. The camp runs July 19-23, from 1-4 pm at the Cascade People's Center in South Lake Union.
